Some people pack a lifetime of achievement, kindness, and bravery into a few short years. Second Lieutenant Samantha “Sam” Denise Pugliese was one of those rare people. She was a dedicated soldier, a brilliant student, and a leader who always put others first. Her story inspires people to work hard and serve their communities.

Sam grew up with a deep passion for science and history. This passion led her to the University of Tennessee, where she chose a very unique field of study: forensic anthropology. This is the science of studying human bones to help solve mysteries and learn about the past.

Sam was an excellent student who loved to learn. She worked incredibly hard in her classes and graduated from college with high honors. Her teachers and classmates always knew they could count on her for help.

While she was studying hard in college, Sam also had another big dream. She wanted to serve her country. She joined the university’s Army ROTC Rocky Top Battalion. This program trains young men and women to become leaders and officers in the United States military.

In the ROTC, Sam stood out right away. She was physically strong, mentally sharp, and highly disciplined. Because of her talent and hard work, she earned the rank of Second Lieutenant. She led her fellow students by example, showing them what it truly means to be a dedicated soldier.

Sam was not just strong in her studies and the military. She also challenged herself in sports and martial arts. She practiced Tae Kwon Do, a martial art that requires a massive amount of focus, practice, and mental toughness.

Through years of dedication, Sam earned her black belt. This achievement showed everyone her inner strength. She took the lessons of respect, discipline, and focus from martial arts and applied them to every single part of her life.

Sadly, Sam passed away in May 2024. Even though her time with us was cut short, the impact she left behind is huge. She is remembered by her family, her friends, her university, and her fellow soldiers as a beacon of light, strength, and joy.

Sam Pugliese showed that you can achieve great things when you dedicate yourself to helping others, studying hard, and sam pugliese serving your country. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of everyone who wears the military uniform and strives to make the world a better place.
