What You Should Know About Your Peugeot Key Fob

Peugeot Key Fob allows drivers to start the car from afar. This is useful in extreme temperatures as it permits drivers to warm the interior and engine before getting inside the vehicle.

Dealerships can program and create new Peugeot keys, but only if they are able to do so. KeyNOW can cut and program, then deliver new Peugeot keys faster than you can at KeyNOW.

Keyless Entry

In addition to opening and locking your car doors, a few key fobs can also be used to start the engine. This is useful when you have to leave the vehicle on hot days or if you’re carrying heavy items in your boot that make it difficult for you to open the door manually. To start the car using your key fob, press the unlock button on it several times in rapid succession. The door locks will unlock and a red light will start to flash. If this does not happen the battery for your key fob could be dead and requires to be replaced. Also, RF interference coming from nearby buildings may cause interference to your system.

Certain key fobs also come with an actual key that can be used to unlock your vehicle (often for the driver’s side door, but sometimes the boot as well). They can be opened by opening an opening on the fob, or by pressing a button on the case. The key can then be removed from the slot inside the case to open the lock.

Water can damage key fobs, especially if the chips are exposed to soapy or salty water. In some instances keys will stop working completely due to a damaged chip. In this situation the key fob will need to be replaced by the dealer. Locksmiths can replace keys much quicker and at a lower cost than dealerships.

Remote Start

If your key fob comes with the remote start feature it allows you to start the engine without having to hold your car keys in hands. This is especially useful when it’s hot outside and you want to cool your car when you’re running errands. However, there are some things you should know before making use of this feature.

Certain key fobs come with a dedicated remote engine start button (for example Ford’s key fob features an arrow in a circle that goes clockwise) that you need to press to remotely start your car. Mazdas, for instance, require you to lock the key first and then press the Start button.

If you’re not able to start your car, you might have a weak or dead battery inside the key fob. The key fob’s battery isn’t strong enough to transmit a signal to the car system.

If this is the case, you’ll need to replace the batteries on your key fob or try to re-programme it. The procedure differs for every car, but the instructions are usually in the owner’s manual. Our mobile technicians are able to help you with this procedure. We have the specialist equipment needed to cut and program the replacement Peugeot key at your office, home or if you are stuck on the roadside.

Door Locks

The Peugeot 3008 remote key system allows the owner to lock and unlock their vehicle at the touch of a button on the key fob. In contrast to the traditional key which has a key hole that is physical, this key fob stores a hidden electronic replica of the car key inside.

It does this by utilizing an electronic signal that is only sent when the key is at a certain distance from the car. A solenoid in the door lock converts the electronic command into a mechanical one once the signal is detected. The rod is then turned to operate the door locks, just like keys on a real key could.

If the Peugeot key fob isn’t locking or unlocking the vehicle, there are many possible causes. The most common cause is the battery of the coin is dead, which is easily replaced in a matter of minutes. Other causes include worn buttons water damage or signal interference, or a malfunctioning electronic chip.

The key fob of modern automobiles is not an exception. Modern vehicles require an extremely high level of precision to function. Key fobs can be programed incorrectly or have a hardware defect that prevents it from receiving a signal from the vehicle. A licensed locksmith can reprogram the key fob to ensure that it works with your vehicle.

Immobiliser

Peugeot were one of the first car makers to use an immobiliser chip in the key. This stops the car from starting if the key sends the incorrect signal to the car. This is great in the beginning however, over time, the chips can get worn out and cause issues. It usually happens when you notice a message on your dashboard that says ‘anti-theft system active or a warning light that reads “immobiliser failure”.

Peugeot dealerships are typically called to create and program replacement keys. Mobile locksmiths have dealer-standard equipment on their van. This means that they can design new Peugeot keys at home or by the roadside much quicker than dealerships.

Peugeot keys generally begin to fail when the blade begins to wear out. This wear can cause the mouth of the key to fit into the lock in a correct manner, leading to further wear on the locks. Often simply swapping over a new blade can help solve the issue. It is also possible to have the teeth of the key repaired to ensure that they function smoothly. Only a certified auto locksmith can do this, however it will save you a lot of time and money in the long run.
